About A Man of No Importance

Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Terrence McNally’s acclaimed musical A Man of No Importance tells the story of an amateur theater group in 1960s Dublin and their leader, bus driver Alfie Byrne. Determined to stage a production of Oscar Wilde’s Salome despite the objections of local church authorities, Alfie confronts the forces of bigotry and shame over a love "that dare not speak its name.” This evocative and award-winning musical illustrates the redemptive power of theater, love, and friendship, all for a man of seemingly no importance.

Please note the following cast changes for all performances through, and including, December 11:
Justin Scott Brown will perform the role of Ernie Lally (usually played by Joel Waggoner)
Benjamin Howes will perform the role of Alfie Byrne (usually played by Jim Parsons) with CSC Board Member and Tony Winner Santino Fontana performing the role of Father Kenny (usually played by Nathaniel Stampley)

"i can resist everything except temptation."-wilde

See it if You enjoy small ensembles with multiple characters who get a chance to shine. You like music with an Irish flair.

Don’t see it if You have difficulty with Irish accents and minimal sets.

Absorbing, Intelligent, Great staging, Great acting, Great singing

See it if you want to engage in an intelligent play from the first words, through warm interactions and a meaningful and moving ending. Top rate!

Don’t see it if you cannot appreciate all that can be accomplished on a small stage with a fantastic cast in less than two hours that flew by as if only one

See it if This musical is full of pathos&Irish humor+grt music, singing&lighting on a Doyle-style minimal stage.*

Don’t see it if You only fancy big musicals or you are not for small intimate venues.

Thought-provoking, Intelligent, Great staging, Delightful

See it if Very intelligent show with some actors playing musical instruments. Smart usage of venue. Show is well rehearsed, no 1st day "surprises"

Don’t see it if The show will meet your expectations, but not exceed them. Do not go if you are deeply religious.A little unfinished ending.
